About Me
Welcome
Hello, I’m Alison Todd.
I’m a BACP-registered counsellor based in Brechin, offering warm, confidential counselling to adults and young people across Angus and the surrounding area.
I have an MSc in Pluralistic Counselling and particular experience in trauma, childhood experiences, relationships, anxiety, low mood, neurodivergence and the challenges that can come with major changes in life.
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working with children, young people and families, including in senior roles in national children’s organisations and child protection. This experience has given me a deep understanding of how our early experiences, relationships and circumstances can continue to affect how we feel about ourselves and relate to others.
My approach is relational, trauma-informed and pluralistic. That simply means I don’t believe one type of therapy works for everyone. We work together to understand what is happening for you and find an approach that genuinely helps.
Above all, I aim to offer a place where you can feel heard, understood and accepted without judgement.
How I Can Help
I support adults and young people experiencing:
Anxiety, stress and feeling overwhelmed
Low mood and depression
Trauma and the impact of difficult childhood experiences
Attachment and relationship difficulties
Low self-esteem, shame and feeling “not good enough”
Autism, ADHD and neurodivergence
Grief, loss and major life changes
Adoption, care experience and identity
Parenting and therapeutic parenting challenges
I have a particular interest in trauma, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), attachment, neurodivergence and understanding how experiences earlier in life can continue to affect us in adulthood.
You do not need to have a diagnosis or even know exactly what is wrong. Sometimes people simply know that they are struggling, repeating patterns they don’t understand, or no longer want to feel the way they do.
